A cobalt-blue Peking glass bell-shaped cup, Qing Dynasty 19th century.

9 x 7cm

The Qing dynasty marked the pinnacle of glassmaking in China. From the Kangxi period onward, imperial glass workshops were established under the supervision of the Zaobanchu (Imperial Household Workshops), while Beijing—especially the Liulichang area—became a major center of production. Integrating Western glassmaking techniques introduced by Jesuit missionaries with traditional Chinese craftsmanship, artisans developed the distinctive body of work known today as “Peking glass,” prized for its purity of color and refined quality.
